SCOTLAND

Juxtaposition was a key theme in mine and Lukas’ discussions about photography, but I’m realizing how it applies to many of the places we visited. The modern built atop of the ancient. Scotland was fascinating in that it felt like the cities, people, and country at large was intimately connected to its past in a way that was different than other countries.

IRELAND

There’s definitely an edge to the Irish cities that we visited (Belfast and Dublin). Again, juxtaposition and contrast comes into play in these places. To the north, a historically divided city and to the south, a city that fought to be its own. There’s the pastoral scenery but also the spray-paint grunge of the Belfast murals. The Irish seemed to embrace a rowdiness that is probably the result of the bloody years that led to their independence.
